Brunch / £ / 7/10

I have a weekly baby class in Beeston and so am making the most of the opportunity to get brunch and visit some new places but I have been reliably informed (by the Beeston Cobbler) Beeston at night offers a whole host of options. Situated on Beestons high street Bistro 66 provides an attractive option for people looking for a slightly more grown up experience than the Pudding Pantry. The main bistro seating area is nicely laid out with a bar area and smaller seating sections (not big enough to accomodate lots of prams). The whole place is very relaxing without the frission that comes with babies and toddlers. The menu equally reflects the atmosphere and clientele, with more grown up choices of turkish eggs and eggs benedict alongside brunch cocktails. Had I not been in charge of a three month old I would have smashed a Mimosa (I missed the universal memo of the name change from a Bucks Fizz).

Sober and hungry I ordered Eggs Benedict, a cortado and a lime and soda. The coffee was mellow and tasty, it is no longer an option for cafe/bistro’s to offer anything else, still a surprise to someone that grew up in the 80’s.

The brunch arrived and had all the tell tale signs of being great, shiny hollandaise, no weird egg dribble and a well toasted muffin. The ingredients are really good quality so they only need not be fussed with too much, something Bistro 66 respected. I also think it shows confidence to send a dish out exactly as it appears on the menu. In the same way people expect good coffee I think most people expect well poached eggs and crispy bacon. Bistro 66 understand this – bravo. My only niggle was the hollandaise, it looked fantastic but lacked the vinegar needed to cut through the richness of the egg. Without the vinegar Eggs Benedict is eggs with bacon and egg sauce on a muffin. If I were to go to Bistro 66 again I would order a classic english breakfast now I know the quality of the ingrediants and simplicity of their preparation.
Family – Bistro 66 offers a kids menu and does have room for a couple of prams, they were extremely accomodating when me and 2 friends with prams arrived.
