Baba Dough

Dinner / ££ / 10/10

Family – The restaurant has space for pushchairs at a couple of the tables, there is no specific kids menu but kids that like pizza will be happy (you can ask for no basil/parmesan if your child prefers a simple pizza).

This wasn’t the first time I have been to Baba Dough but I have committed to only write a blog post off the back of a recent visit to ensure all the reviews are as up to date and as useful as possible. Baba Dough has been a firm favourite in our house since it opened, it offers pizza, sides, coffee, drinks and desserts.

I went to Baba Dough on a cold Tuesday evening and found the simple dining room warm and welcoming. Surrounded by other restaurants and takeaways, Baba Dough offers pizza and drinks and does it very, very well. We had booked online but were told on arrival we could sit anywhere we liked that was vacant, there were a couple of other tables in so we opted to sit near the window (this helps restaurants look busier, so it is always my preference). We were a party of three and opted to go for a pizza each and 2 side salads along with hot honey dip. We ordered 2 Capricciosa’s and a ‘Don’t tell the Italian’ which is a Hawaiian but always makes me smile – I don’t feel guilty about any of my pleasures but I know people that frown on fruit as a pizza topping.

CAPRICIOSSA

The pizzas are enough on their own but l like the variety of the wedge salad on the side, it is not a nod to healthy eating though, being a wedge lettuce with ranch dressing, crispy onions (like the kind you get on a Harvester salad station – delicious) and parmesan. In my opinion Baba Dough serve the best pizza in Nottingham, cooked in a raging hot oven the base is thin, light, has flavour, is seasoned well and crispy to the centre (I hate a pizza that can’t support it’s middle). Pizzas are served with basil and parmesan so they are tasty even if you have a Margarita – with the good quality toppings and hot honey dip they were delicious. We all enjoyed the food and the evening immensely.

WEDGE SALAD AND HOT HONEY

We stayed for pudding – well that is a little bit of a stretch, I ordered a pudding which I promised to share and then didn’t. I ordered the tiramisu (always do in italian restaurants, it is a good measure) and it was ok. Not enough booze or coffee for my palette but if appealing to the masses (including children) it was none offensive and did the job. I didn’t leave any of it so my desire for more adult content didn’t stop me eating the entire thing. I’m a trooper.

Baba Dough also offer take away and the restaurant had a steady stream of delivery drivers picking up – having had a home delivery before I can confirm they are as good as eating in if you want to avoid a trip out/not have to work out where the bloody hell to park near Trent Bridge.

In conclusion I cannot sing the praises of Baba Dough enough, I feel immensely lucky it is in walking distance from my house and I tell anyone who will listen how great it is. Long may it continue.
